Let your Kid(s) become self supporting; bringing out the best in their personality

Most plants appreciate a hearty meal of fertilizer, but too much feasting can make the plant unhealthy. When the soil absorbs the nutrients from fertilizers, the root no longer has to spread itself underneath the soil in search of water and nutrients. This in turn, weakens the root. Weak roots make the plant more vulnerable to disease and damage from drought, heat and other problems.

Now you see where this is going…….

This situation can be superimposed to the life of a new parent. Your affection and concern towards your kid cant be matched, however you need to draw a line and tell yourself — from here on, my kid can figure out him/herself. Most parents today, want to help their kid in everything they are struggling with. In the process, you are denying them the experience of fighting with the struggle, the experience of going out of comfort zone, being creative and an out of the box thinker.

These are the core values of a human life and we face difficult experiences day in and day out, where we need to take decisions our-self, NO HELP NO SUPPORT from anybody. In such times, if we have strong character, a strong will — we will overcome any ordeal.

Parenting does involve lot of love and care for the kid and I am not saying that you shouldn’t help them at all, but do not help them till the time they really need you. This takes me back to the plant story — if you want your plant to be lush, green and healthy — you should know when to stop feeding fertilizer to the plant.

Remember, don’t become a permanent fall-back option for your kid. Let them struggle with the ordeal and they will always take a giant leap forward!
