Kids can get distracted very easily. It is not uncommon to find that the kids get distracted most of the time as they try to find meaning and attachment with the world they have just arrived into! They may not be newborns anymore but the stages of life for kids are full of inquisitiveness and questions. At times we adults find it difficult to give sufficient time and attention to our kids due to busy schedules. When such practices become the norm, kids tend to feel distracted and detached.

Therefore, we need to step back and fulfill that gap in our kid’s life.

A distraction-free child:

- learns to focus in a better way

- can make clearer and quicker choices

- can control his thoughts and behaviour more aptly

- does her or his work with finesse

We have brought some useful tips for the new-age parents to learn how they can raise distraction-free kids.

1. Let them discover:

At the point when the children are little, give them some extra time with a toy or anything, for example, a paper or shoebox! Let them find things and attempt to discover different parts of it. At the point when they are done, you should proceed to discuss that specific thing to discover what they have taken note. Continue doing this training each day. This propensity encourages them in finding and investigating things around them. It encourages them to bend their mind towards the learning curve. At the point when they talk about their disclosures, give them reasonable information so that they feel significant and esteemed.

There is another favourable outcome of this action, your children will figure out how to deal with their commitment in their spare time which is very much important in today’s digital age.

2. Let the technology have a meaning:

One of the biggest challenges that modern parents face these days is to decide on how much should they rely on technology. During this confusion, it occurs that sometimes we let our kids explore and finalize their content while there are days we lay restrictions over their fondness in technology. At first, make it clear to yourself that how much screen time is right for your kid. Ideally, 2 hours of screen time a day with regular intervals is not a bad idea! You can divide those 2 hours according to your child’s interest or your commitments too.

But even if you are busy, make sure that the kid is engaged in something meaningful. For example, if you are letting them play games on the iPad you need to ask them or tell them what is good and interesting. You can even help them to connect with their peers over a zoom call and play games such as cards, Pictionary, Ludo, etc.

De-clutter the myths and doubts about technology from your mind and help your kids find meaningful content. It will reduce distraction and add to knowledge and fun at the same time.

3. Follow a schedule:

Understandably, parenting is a 24X7 job. BUT only you can make your priorities clear and loud. By loud we mean, let it be known to your kid that it is them or your work which is more important at a particular time. You can have ten tasks lined up on your head but make sure that you are completing them within schedule. Also, make a schedule for your kids too. Your kids need to know and understand their schedule. For example- on a given day if you are busy and your kid has gotten extra free time, he or she may start feeling lonely and distracted too. Distraction promotes a lack of interest and reduces the ability to focus amongst kids which is dangerous in the long run.

BUT if they have a schedule of their own then despite you being busy, they will know what should be done next and it will help them in spending their day constructively.

Being parents to little kids has never been an easy job. The biggest let down is that nobody tells you the ground rules of parenting and you need to devise and lay them out on your own. However, that’s the fun part of it too! So, create an environment for your kid to help them in increasing traction and defeating ‘dis’traction from their life.

This blog was written by one of our teachers. Teachers who were making sure that the kids are not distracted in the offline classes are now making the same sure in online classes.

No matter how easy that sounds but they put utmost efforts in teaching and making the curriculum interesting to make sure kids are not distracted.

We at www.igenpod are proud of our teachers and one such teacher we would like to mention about and who has also written this blog is Yashu Sangwan.

Keep up the good work teachers and kids.

Keep Learning.
