We were talking to a few parents and they shared some insights from their childhood with us. One of them shared the following story, which we think has been the story of every 80s kid.

When I was a kid, I was always told to study more and score good grades at school. I used to stay at home and study for long hours. I grew up to be a good student, scored high grades and got into a good college. I was, however, always afraid of going up on the stage, and talking to a large group of people, let alone asking doubts in class. This problem only grew with age. Though I was very comfortable talking to my friends, classmates and people I knew, I used to be very shy when it came to facing or addressing a group of unknown people, at work or otherwise.

With age, I became a part of the never end rat race and turmoil. I missed out on a lot of personality building opportunities only to find out that my shyness has been destroying the opportunities of success. That’s when I thought, I will never let this happen with my kid(s).

We at iGenPod, have been asked these questions quite frequently. Why have we chosen to take the path of activity-based learning for personality development? Why are activity based live sessions good for kids (age 8 -14) to build and shape their personality at an early stage?

So, what exactly is Activity Based Learning?

Activity based learning is a method to learn while doing an activity. Do you remember, how we all used to love doing practicasl in science lab or how we used to wait for our sports/music/dance/arts and crafts period, or anything which involved us participating in an activity?

It was always right in-front of us that the best way of learning is through actually ‘learning by doing’ or keeping ourselves in the shoes of others. This helps in retaining a good attention span.

There are so many clinically proven techniques to improve attention span, lets name a few of them

1. A good diet

2. Find what interests your child inherently

3. Discover your child’s personal learning style

4. Have your child teach or talk something interesting with younger kids or kids from the same age group

5. Use effective communication skills

6. Help your child develop social skills

And the list goes on…

We have missed a lot of real-time learnings during our childhood days and we don’t want our kids to go through the same old process of learning by mugging up concepts, doing the monotonous homework and drowning behind a textbook.

We were always asked to focus more on studies and scoring grades. Well looking back now, do you think those were the only things that helped getting us where we are today? It certainly helped us choose our paths, but what really has in shaping our personalities? Experiences and learning by examples! 😊

We at iGenPod are here just for that. To set those examples for your children and help them become a dynamic gen of future leaders — honing each and every child’s unique personality trait to its fullest potential. We believe in the overall development of a child’s personality beyond bookish knowledge.
